Baku, May 22, AZERTAC
A panel session titled “Metropolitan Governance for Affordable Housing and Inclusive Territorial Development” was held as part of the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13).
The main topic of the session was the role of metropolitan governance in ensuring affordable housing and inclusive territorial development.
The event, co-organized by the Brazilian Ministry of Cities, the National Front of Brazilian Mayors, the Barcelona Metropolitan Area, and the Gauteng City-Region Observatory (South Africa), brought together experts and government representatives from various countries. They emphasized the importance of coordination at the city-region level in the context of the housing crisis and climate change.
It was noted that integrated metropolitan planning and effective financing mechanisms make it possible to expand access to basic services and create sustainable infrastructure. At the same time, strengthening cooperation between municipalities contributes to reducing social inequality and preventing territorial fragmentation.
The discussions highlighted that the metropolitan level holds strategic importance for sustainable urban development, and the exchange of international experience in this direction plays a particularly important role.
