WUF13: UNITAC platform supports smart city management
Baku, May 22, AZERTAC
In people-centered smart cities, it is of particular importance to build innovations based on the principles of participation and collaboration. It is essential to ensure equal access to digital services, skills and infrastructure for vulnerable groups, said Aline Matta, Head of United Nations Innovation Technology Accelerator for Cities (UNITAC), Senior Programme Management Officer, as she addressed the session on “Buildings for the Future - Advancing the Climate-Housing Nexus through Digital Innovation held as part of the 13th Session of the United Nations World Urban Forum (WUF13).
She noted that established in 2020, the program supports the implementation of the UN-Habitat’s Strategic Plan. “The key directions of the new strategic plan are housing, land, and basic services. Digitalization is considered one of the main tools for implementing these directions,” she added.
According to her, the program supports digital city innovation through four key pillars such as global advocacy, capacity building, technical assistance, and financing.
Aline Matta emphasized that one of the crucial initiatives implemented as part of the program is the UNITAC platform established in 2021, which is a digital platform. This initiative is implemented in partnership with UN-Habitat, the UN Office of Information and Communications Technology, and HafenCity University Hamburg of Germany.
