Political analyst: Development of Azerbaijan-Uzbekistan relations is a vivid example of strategic journey from brotherhood to alliance

“Azerbaijan-Uzbekistan relations have advanced to the level of an alliance, evolving beyond bilateral cooperation into a strategic axis linking the South Caucasus with Central Asia. This relationship is reinforced by political trust, economic integration, and shared positions within the Turkic world,” political analyst Aydin Taghiyev said in an interview with AZERTAC.
Noting that the strong personal friendship and mutual trust between President Ilham Aliyev and President Shavkat Mirziyoyev play a pivotal role in strengthening ties between the two countries, he emphasized: “The ‘Declaration on Deepening Strategic Partnership’ and the ‘Treaty on Allied Relations’ have established an institutional framework for cooperation in the political, economic, energy, transport, education, and cultural spheres, reflecting the depth and strength of the friendly relations between the two countries.”
“Energy cooperation, particularly joint projects involving SOCAR, the development of a green energy corridor, and the expansion of transit routes are becoming increasingly important on the bilateral agenda. This opens a new energy gateway for Azerbaijan toward Central Asia. In this regard, the role of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) is highly significant. Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan are deepening integration within this platform and working to enhance the political and economic strength of the Turkic world. I believe that the closer ties between these two brotherly states will make a significant contribution to the future development of the Turkic world,” Taghiyev added.
The political analyst underlined that the integration of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway into the Middle Corridor and the Trans-Caspian Transport Route (TRIPP) further strengthens the strategic regional position of the Baku-Tashkent route and enhances its prospects for future development.
“Azerbaijan-Uzbekistan relations have moved beyond traditional bonds of brotherhood and developed into a model of alliance based on political trust, economic integration, and regional geopolitical balance,” he said.
Noting that the partnership continues to deepen and expand, Taghiyev emphasized: “The treaties on allied relations that have been signed have provided bilateral ties with a legal and institutional framework, establishing a solid foundation for long-term strategic cooperation. Joint investment companies, industrial production, and energy projects serve as key practical pillars of economic cooperation, while educational exchanges, cultural days, and symbolic initiatives continue to bring the two peoples closer together.
“At the regional level, the Azerbaijan-Uzbekistan tandem, through their shared positions within the Organization of Turkic States, contributes to strengthening the political and economic influence of the Turkic world. The integration of transport corridors, meanwhile, is helping to establish a new strategic axis connecting the South Caucasus with Central Asia. Thus, these relations have become one of the key pillars of a new geopolitical reality, both bilaterally and at the regional level.”
