Restoration of Estonia’s independence marked in Azerbaijan House

The Azerbaijan House hosted a cultural event marking the 35th anniversary of the restoration of Estonia's independence.
The event was co-organized by the Estonian Union of Nations, the Estonian Uzbek Cultural Center HUMO, the Uzbek Cultural Society Safar and the Estonia-Azerbaijan Cultural Center AYDAN.
Prior to the cultural program, participants observed a minute of silence to honor the memory of prominent Estonian statesman and public figure Siim Kallas, paying tribute to his contributions to the restoration of the country's independence and statehood. His role in advancing Estonia-Azerbaijan relations was particularly highlighted.
Speakers highlighted the historical legacy of Eldar Afandiyev, who played a crucial role in restoring Estonia’s independence and later served as a minister under Prime Minister Siim Kallas. In 1989, while serving as Director of the Narva Museum, he raised the Estonian tricolor above the landmark and spearheaded local independence efforts as a representative of the Popular Front in Narva.
Maria Jufereva-Skuratovski, Chairwoman of the Estonia-Azerbaijan Parliamentary Group of the Estonian Parliament (Riigikogu), Artyom Teplyuk, Representative of the Estonian Ministry of Culture, Natalya Yermakova, President of the Estonian Union of Nations, and Surat Pulotov, Head of the Estonian Uzbek Cultural Center HUMO, addressed the event to convey congratulations on the 35th anniversary of the restoration of Estonia's independence. In their remarks, speakers emphasized the significant role of national communities in fostering societal unity, mutual respect, and interethnic cooperation across the country.
Featuring as the evening's special guest, the Mavrigi ensemble from Bukhara, Uzbekistan, an acclaimed participant of the International Mugham Festival in Baku, captivated participants with the rich musical traditions of Bukhara, bringing a unique character to the celebration.
Niyazi Hajiyev, Head of the “Aydan” Estonia-Azerbaijan Cultural Center, and Zulfiya Nurmanova, Chairwoman of the Estonian Turkic Peoples Cultural Society, expressed their gratitude to the guests from Uzbekistan, praising their contribution to the preservation and promotion of the common musical and cultural heritage of the Turkic peoples, as well as the strengthening of cultural ties between peoples.
In their remarks, speakers described culture and music as powerful instruments in bringing nations together and safeguarding a shared heritage. They underscored the key role of such cultural gatherings in promoting this rich legacy within Estonia.
