AUSTRALIAN BRISBANE HOTEL EVACUATED AMID FIRE AND REPORTS OF EXPLOSIONS
Baku, May 21 (AZERTAC). A fire which engulfed a function room at an inner-city Brisbane hotel this morning has been extinguished.
It is believed residents and guests heard a series of explosions from the restaurant kitchen at the Central Dockside Apartments on Ferry Street, Kangaroo Point, about 8.15am, moments before the fire started.
Fire crews with breathing apparatus were met with thick, black smoke when they entered the building about 8.30am.
"There`s a plastic roof and also a plastic awning out the front. That`s what gave off all the black smoke," officer Andrew Sturgess said.
Fire crews were able to quickly contain the blaze.
One man was taken to hospital, according to officer Stafford.
"The occupant who first went to check it out has asthma and felt some breathing issues so he was taken to the Royal Brisbane Hospital," he said.
A cafe worker across the road said it was just a `minor explosion" but he could still see massive flames from the room.
"The flame was about 15-20 metres high. There was a lot of smoke," he said.
