Azerbaijan and Serbia discuss prospects of cooperation
Baku, May 5 (AZERTAC). Azerbaijan`s Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov met with Chairperson of the Serbian parliament Slavitsa Dzhukich-Deyanovich.
Mr. Mammadyarov briefed on the country`s policy, economy, democratic reforms, activity of Azerbaijan-Serbia Intergovernmental Friendship Group and numerous meetings held in Serbia.
Mr. Deyanovich praised the relations established between Serbia and Azerbaijan, including parliamentary ties. He said the government of Serbia supports Azerbaijan`s sovereignty, territorial integrity and fair stance regarding the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno Karabakh conflict. Chairman also thanked the government of Azerbaijan for supporting Serbia in Kosovo issue.
Mr. Mammadyarov met with Serbian Prime Minister Mirko Cvetković. Prime Minister said Serbia attaches great importance to developing economic relations with Azerbaijan, including spheres of energy, oil and chemistry. He said Serbia signed agreements on free trade with Russia, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Belarus and Turkey and wishes to do the same with Azerbaijan.
Mr. Mammadyarov updated the Prime Minister on economic reforms, implementation of the large-scale projects in energy sphere. Azeri FM also met with first deputy prime minister and minister of internal affairs Ivitsa Dachich.
Mr. Dachich expressed desire to sign agreement on visa-free regime between the two countries. The sides also discussed international security, combat with terrorism and organized crime.
FM met with Minister of Labor and Social Policy Rasim Ljajić. The last expressed his gratitude to the government of Azerbaijan and the Heydar Aliyev Foundation for assistance rendered to the Serbian refugees and the orphan`s homes. Serbian minister offered to sign agreements with Azerbaijan in the spheres of energy, tourism and culture.
Azerbaijani minister visited the mausoleum to the former Yugoslavian leader Josip Broz Tito. Mammadyarov also visited Azerbaijani embassy to Serbia, also met with representatives of Azerbaijani Diaspora, members of Azerbaijani Cultural Center in Belgrade and Serbia-Azerbaijan Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
A two-day visit of Azerbaijani foreign minister to Serbia has come to an end.
