Baku, February 20, AZERTAC
Azay Guliyev, a member of Azerbaijani delegation, Chair of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly General Committee on Economic Affairs, Science, Technology, and Environment, addressed the joint meeting of the committees entitled "Human Rights as a Basis for Security" held as part of the 25th Winter Meeting of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly in Vienna, Austria.
He highlighted the new peaceful realities emerging in the South Caucasus.
Azay Guliyev emphasized that following decades of conflicts, the region has entered an unprecedented era of peace and security.
He underlined that the text of Agreement on Establishment of Peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia has been initialed, the OSCE Minsk Group and its affiliated structures have been abolished, the transit restrictions imposed by Azerbaijan on Armenia due to the occupation have been lifted, and the supply of energy products has been ensured.
These steps have created a new dynamic for normalization and peaceful coexistence between the two countries. Azay Guliyev underlined that Azerbaijan is ready to sign a peace agreement immediately after Armenia adopts its new constitution.
The MP also hailed the growing strategic efforts of the United States in the region, JD Vance’s visit to the region and the signing of the “Charter on Strategic Partnership between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the United States of America” in Baku as an indicator of powerful support for regional stability. He noted that the key issue impeding the comprehensive development of bilateral relations is Section 907 to the Freedom Support Act, which restricts US cooperation with Azerbaijan at the state level, and its complete abolition would be in line with the current realities and the national interests of both countries.
