Azerbaijan, Greek customs services to develop joint action plan

A meeting between representatives of Azerbaijan’s State Customs Committee and the Greek General Directorate of Customs and Excise Duty under the Independent Authority for Public Revenue was held in Athens as part of the 6th session of the Joint Commission on Economic, Industrial and Technological Cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Hellenic Republic.
The delegations, led by Major General of Customs Service Bahruz Guliyev, First Deputy Chairman of the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan, and Dimitrios Bourikos, Director General of Customs and Excise Duty of the Independent Authority for Public Revenue of Greece, discussed the exchange of best practices and prospects for expanding cooperation.
The meeting provided an overview of recent improvements to Greece’s customs system, the expansion of digitalization, the development of a risk- and data-based customs management model using modern technologies, and related projects. The Greek side expressed interest in Azerbaijan’s experience in measuring and analyzing customs processing times (TRS), with the sides noting the potential benefits of exchanging expertise in this field.
The Azerbaijani side shared its experience in TRS, canine services, cooperation with the World Customs Organization, and capacity building. The sides also discussed cooperation between customs academies, authorized economic operators, expert working groups, and the development of a joint Action Plan for bilateral customs cooperation.
