Azerbaijan, Jordan mull interparliamentary ties
Amman, September 10 (AZERTAC). Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Jordan Sabir Agabeyov met with member of this country’s lower house of the parliament, secretary general of Al Resalah Party Hazem Sherif Qashou to discuss a wide range of issues including bilateral cooperation and expansion of interparliamentary ties.
During the meeting, the sides underlined the high level of Azerbaijan-Jordan relationship. They touched upon strengthening of interparliamentary ties as well as situation in the Middle East and North Africa. The Azerbaijani diplomat raised the importance of establishment of the working group in the lower house of the Jordan`s parliament. According to him, there is the working group for relations with Jordan in the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan and presence of such a group in the Jordan parliament will further parliamentary ties between the two countries.
The ambassador handed over the invitation to the MP to participate in the third international humanitarian forum in Baku.
The MP thanked for the invitation to take part in the forum, which provides a forum for strengthening humanitarian ties. He expressed satisfaction with development of bilateral relationship in all fields in particular, parliament-to-parliament interaction. The Parliamentarian favoured the idea of creating the working group and assured that this issue will be solved shortly. He underlined that this will be followed by putting the Khojaly genocide onto the agenda of the parliament.
Then, the ambassador met with the senator of the upper house of the parliament Mohammad al-Wahsh to discuss bilateral relations between the parliaments and prospects of their development, latest developments in the Middle East region. The Azerbaijani diplomat thanked the Jordan`s Senate for supporting the fair position of Azerbaijan with respect to the Khojaly genocide and reminded of the senate`s June 2013 resolution condemning violence and human rights violations. Agabeyov also welcomed the activity of the Azerbaijan-Jordan committee of fraternity in the lower house which includes 18 senators and chaired by Marvan Al Khamud.
The ambassador invited the senator to participate in the international humanitarian forum in Baku. For his part, the senator underlined the importance of cementing cultural and humanitarian ties.
Discussions also revolved around the crisis in Syria. In particular, the parliamentarians voiced the official position of Jordan which does not allow Jordan`s territory to be used the foreign military intervention in Syria and favours political resolution of the conflict.
