AZERBAIJAN KEEN IN DEVELOPMENT OF CO-OP WITH UNHCR
On 7 July, foreign minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan Vilayat Guliyev met with delegation of UNHCR led by Assistant High Commissioner for Refugees, Kamel Morjane. Minister Vilayat Guliyev updated the guest on plight of the Azerbaijani refugees, the history and sequences of the Armenian-Azerbaijani, Nagorno Karabakh conflict. Assistance of the international organizations, including of the UNHCR and other donor countries for Azerbaijani refugees have notably reduced, the Minister underlined. This causes certain problems. Despite this, government of Azerbaijan and personally President Heydar Aliyev are seriously engaged in the refugee problems. State Oil Fund of Azerbaijan has allotted huge amount to construct new settlements for refugees. But their problems connected with education, health and other issues still remain, the Minister said. The international organizations know the position of Azerbaijan related to peace way solution of the problem. Azerbaijan will continue cooperation with UNHCR, head of the foreign policy department of Azerbaijan stressed.Expressing his gratitude for warm reception, Mr. Kamel Morjane said the key goal of his visit was to study situation in the region. Azerbaijan is a country with social stability and development, he said. Therefore, he decided to complete his visit in Azerbaijan. Mr. Morjane expressed a hope that after his visit the donor countries would increase attention to Azerbaijan. He also expressed confidence for quick solution of the conflict. The parties had a comprehensive exchange of views on mutual interest. Boghdan Nehaylo, the UNHCR representative in Baku, took part at the meeting.***The same day, Assistant High Commissioner for Refugees Kamel Morjane met with the head of state committee of refugees of Azerbaijan Ali Hasanov.
