AZERBAIJAN TO ATTEND ITU PLENIPOTENTIARY CONFERENCE
Baku, October 1 (AZERTAC). The Plenipotentiary Conference of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) will be held in Guadalajara, Mexico on October 4-22, 2010.
A delegation led by the Minister of Communications and Information Technologies of Azerbaijan Ali Abbasov will attend the conference.
The Conference sets the Union`s general policies, adopts four-year strategic and financial plans and elects the senior management team of the organization, the members of Council and the members of the Radio Regulations Board.
Besides, the Plenipotentiary Conference elects the member states which will constitute the next ITU Council.
It is worth mentioning that Azerbaijan nominated its candidacy for election to the ITU Board in the group of countries in the region “C” (Eastern Europe and Northern Asia). Elections to the ITU Council will take place on October 11.
The Plenipotentiary Conference, the supreme body of the ITU is held every four years and considered a key event where ITU member states pass decisions on the future activity of the organization determining its ability to influence and affect the development of information and communication technologies (ICT) all over the world.
