Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan hold political consultations

On August 19, Azerbaijan’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Samir Sharifov visited Uzbekistan, where he was received by the country’s Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov.
The meeting addressed issues arising from the strategic alliance between the two countries. The sides particularly underscored the importance of intensive contacts between the leaders of Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan in further strengthening the alliance founded on the countries’ brotherly and friendly relations.
The meeting was followed by the next round of political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan. The consultations were led by Azerbaijan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Samir Sharifov and Uzbekistan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Bobur Usmanov.
The sides highlighted the positive momentum in bilateral political dialogue and emphasized the important role played by the Intergovernmental Commission and the political consultations mechanism. They also discussed the implementation of agreements reached, as well as prospects for expanding cooperation in trade and economic relations, energy, transport and logistics, humanitarian affairs, and other areas.
The parties further reviewed opportunities for enhanced interaction within regional and international organizations, including the United Nations, the Organization of Turkic States, the Non-Aligned Movement, and other multilateral platforms.
The consultations also included an exchange of views on other bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest.
