Azerbaijani journalists tour Uzbekistan’s Imam al-Bukhari Memorial Complex
Samarkand, August 20, AZERTAC
As part of a press tour to Uzbekistan, Azerbaijani journalists visited the Imam al-Bukhari Memorial Complex near Samarkand on August 20.
The participants familiarized themselves with the modern complex dedicated to the study and promotion of the scholarly heritage of Imam Muhammad ibn Ismail al-Bukhari (810–870), a prominent Islamic scholar and one of the most renowned scholars of Hadith.
The journalists explored the complex’s modern infrastructure and distinctive architecture, including a mosque with a capacity of 10,000 worshippers, four 75-meter minarets, and a museum comprising nine pavilions.
They were also briefed on Imam al-Bukhari’s life and scholarly legacy, his contribution to Islamic theology, and the significance of “Sahih al-Bukhari,” one of the most authoritative collections of Hadith in Sunni Islam.
It was noted that, following extensive reconstruction, the complex has become a major center for spiritual, educational, and tourism activities. It now offers opportunities not only for pilgrimage but also for the study of Islamic cultural and scholarly heritage.
The project also included the construction of hotels, family guesthouses, service facilities, and parking areas, increasing the complex’s daily capacity to up to 65,000 visitors.
The Imam al-Bukhari Complex was the latest stop on the Azerbaijani journalists’ press tour exploring Uzbekistan’s historical, cultural, tourism, and modern potential.
