Azerbaijani ombudsperson meets Belgian MPs
Baku, July 8 (AZERTAC). Azerbaijani commissioner for human rights (Ombudsperson) Elmira Suleymanova met members of the Azerbaijan-Belgium working group on interparliamentary relations led by head of the delegation Philippe Blanchard.
Attending the meeting, Azerbaijani parliamentarian Fazail Ibrahimli provided information about working group`s activity. He also stressed female suffrage had been first recognized in Azerbaijan Democratic Republic established on May 28, 1918.
Speaking in the meeting, Suleymanova said Azerbaijan fulfilled its Council of Europe human rights obligations.
“Establishment of Ombudsman Office in Azerbaijan was one of important obligations the country took upon itself,” she added.
Azerbaijani ombudsperson also stressed Ombudsman Office “actively” participates in projects of the Council of Europe and the European Union, including Twinning and Eastern Partnership program and expressed her confidence for further expansion of those relations.
In turn, Blanchard praised effective activity of the Azerbaijan`s Ombudsman office in the human rights field.
