CEIBC member companies hold meeting with Azerbaijan`s Deputy FM
Baku, September 18 (AZERTAC). Baku has today hosted a session of Caspian European Integration Business Club (CEIBC) on the subject of “Entrance into WTO: advantages and disadvantages for the Azerbaijani companies”. The session was held with participation of Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Mahmud Mammad-Guliyev. Discussed at the meeting were prospects for cooperation of MFA of Azerbaijan with member companies of the Caspian European Integration Business Club.
Addressing the session, Mahmud Mammad-Guliyev spoke about measures undertaken by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan for protection of economic interests of the country and creation of conditions for promotion of goods and services (at international markets) produced by national companies.
Speaking about prospects of entry of Azerbaijan into the World Trade Organization (WTO), the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs dwelled on aspects of negotiations with WTO members and on new opportunities that business would face after entry into this organization.
Discussed at the meeting were different aspects aiming at protection of a local producer and undertaken by Azerbaijan during the negotiations for entering into WTO under favorable conditions.
He also emphasized that CEIBC has to arrange such events at least 2-3 times a year and take an active part in discussion of issues concerning Azerbaijan’s entry into WTO. In this regard, he applied to the member companies of the Club for maintaining active cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on WTI issues covering different economic sectors so that the MFA could promote rational economic initiatives aiming at establishment of favorable conditions for Azerbaijan’s entry into WTO.
At the meeting Mahmud Mammad-Guliyev informed about the results of the last talks with the WTO member countries. He said the companies should be ready for Azerbaijan’s accession to the WTO. He stressed that the WTO accession talks are being held in four major areas: within the frames of the working group sessions with the next one (11th session) to be hosted later this year, within the framework of multilateral relations, in the direction of bringing the laws of Azerbaijan in conformity with the WTO documents, where major ones are the documents “About competition” and “About technical regulation”, and also within the frames of bilateral talks.
“I believe that the WTO rules will have positive effects on the development of the domestic economy and help raise export of non-oil products”, Mahmud Mammad-Guliyev stressed.
Mahmud Mammad-Guliyev also answered lots of questions of the CEIBC member companies.
Addressing the session, Chief Executive Officer of the Caspian-European Integration Business Club (CEIBC) Telman Aliyev provided information about CEIBC. CEIBC was established in June 2002 in association with Caspian Energy International Media Group and under intensive support of largest oil and gas companies operating in the Caspian-Black Sea region. Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, has been a chairman of CEIBC. According to Aliyev, CEIBC promotes attraction of oil sector revenues into development of the non-oil sector. CEIBC is operating in 50 countries worldwide, carrying out an active work in support of the dialogue between government agencies and the private sector.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mahmud Mammad-Guliyev was presented CEIBC honorary membership certificate. New CEIBC member companies were also presented certificates. Participating in the meeting of CEIBC were executives of companies and representatives of a number of diplomatic agencies accredited in Azerbaijan.
