CHAIRMAN OF MM COMMISSION MEET WITH LITHUANIAN MFA REPRESENTATIVE
S. Seyidov noted that integration into European structures is a top priority of the Azerbaijan’s foreign policy and stressed that the country would use Lithuania’s experience as this country did a great job when joining the NATO and European Union. However, Azerbaijan-Lithuania relations, according to him, are not that developed and reciprocal visits may give a kick-start to development of bilateral cooperation in all spheres.
Then, S. Seyidov touched upon Azerbaijan’s position in the region, problems the country faces and noted the visit of Lithuanian delegation coincides with 14th anniversary of Khojaly genocide committed by Armenian fascists. He expressed his concern over the imminent hearings on the so-called Armenian genocide in the Lithuanian parliament and called on Lithuanian side to carefully study this issue before making a final decision.
V. Zalis noted that Azerbaijan-Lithuanian relations had weakened for recent years because of lack of information of Azerbaijan. In this respect, the main objective of the visit is to gather more information and analyze it. Today, Azerbaijan’s economic development, integration into Europe is closely watched in Lithuania. Diplomat said Lithuanian president is planning to make a visit to Azerbaijan adding that the embassy of Lithuania would soon open in Baku.
Azerbaijan-Lithuania interparliamentary group members and other officials were present at the meeting.
