Counter-trafficking campaign due to start in Azerbaijan
Baku, May 5 (AZERTAC). The OSCE office in Baku in partnership with the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan has today announced an upcoming counter-trafficking campaign in Azerbaijan. A one-week campaign aimed at preventing trafficking in persons will be conducted in Azerbaijan from May 6 till May 16, the organizers told press conference at Landmark hotel.
As part of the campaign, Public Service Announcements and other programmes will be broadcast on radio and TV channels and people will be distributed booklets and posters. Other events include roundtable discussions about human trafficking and a concert.
Addressing the conference, Melissa Stone, Deputy Head of the OSCE Office in Baku emphasized anti-trafficking campaign would enable the government and its partners to mobilize efforts to raise public awareness about human trafficking.
“By raising public awareness, the campaign can warn would-be victims of the practices and techniques used by traffickers and ultimately prevent trafficking. It also serves to encourage the government to increase its assistance to and protection of trafficking victims”, she added.
Deputy Chief of Department for Combat against Human Trafficking of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan Imran Najafov briefly described efforts made by Azerbaijani government to fight against human trafficking.
Head of Baku office of the International Organization for Migration Serhan Aktoprak, representative of the American Immigration Lawyers Association Jennifer Riddle and Program Coordinator of International Labor Organization of Azerbaijan Elnur Nasibov gave information about the activity of their organizations.
