Energy sector challenges require trusted partnerships, Bulgarian minister says
Baku, March 3, AZERTAC
“The world around us is changing at an unprecedented pace. However, climate change, geopolitical tensions, technological breakthroughs require us to transform. Energy is a strategic platform for development, security, and innovation. From October 1, 2022, Bulgaria has effectively become an integral part of the strategic infrastructure - the Southern Gas Corridor, which has proved its crucial role for enhancing Europe’s energy security,” said Traycho Traykov, Bulgaria’s Minister of Energy, as he addressed the Ministerial session within the Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council 12th Ministerial Meeting and Green Energy Advisory Council 4th Ministerial Meeting.
According to him, Bulgaria pursues a consistent policy for the development of its gas infrastructure, the modernization and expansion of its national gas transmission network, and the construction of reverse gas connections with the neighboring countries.
“In the context of national and European objectives for interconnected and unified pan-European gas market, we have secured the diversified supplies from trusted suppliers. In this regard, I would like to confirm our commitment to further leverage the Southern Gas Corridor partnership, and to inform you that Bulgaria has already started the construction of the Vertical Gas Corridor. This project will increase by 50 percent the gas transit capacity of the South-Eastern Europe. The Vertical Gas Corridor represents a key strategic initiative aimed at securing additional natural gas volumes from diverse and reliable sources and partner countries to the markets in Eastern, Southeastern, and Central Europe. All these energy sector challenges, however, require the trusted partnerships such as the one established under the Southern Gas Corridor. Bulgaria is an active participant in various regional initiatives, including the Green Energy Corridor, a project between Azerbaijan, Georgia, Romania, and Hungary, supported by Bulgaria from very beginning. Let us continue to strengthen our regional energy cooperation by scaling it up and creating sustainable solutions for the future,” Traykov added.
