Galaxy Tab 10.1 hits American Airlines
Baku, December 16 (AZERTAC). Samsung`s Galaxy Tab 10.1 is flying high after American Airlines announced that it will provide the tablets to passengers in-flight.
The company today announced that its tablet is now available to American Airlines customers flying in the first- and business-class cabins on transcontinental and overseas flights. More specifically, the company said the tablets, which are running custom-built software, are on flights from New York`s JFK to Los Angeles and San Francisco, as well as on planes traveling from Miami to San Francisco and Los Angeles. International flights to and from Europe and South America will also have the tablets.
Samsung and American Airlines announced their partnership in June. The companies say passengers will be able to watch over 70 movies, including 30 new releases, as well as access music and television shows. Starting in the first quarter, American Airlines will bring Wi-Fi, games and e-reader functionality to the tablets.
It`s been a big week for American Airlines` tablet efforts. Yesterday, the company received Federal Aviation Administration approval for pilots to use Apple`s iPad during flights. The tablet, which will find its way to cockpits on Friday, will be used "as electronic chart and digital flight manual readers".
But as American Airlines adds these extras, it is also facing trouble. Last month, it filed for bankruptcy protection, joining a long list of airlines that can`t keep up with soaring expenses.
