IFES AND COE HOLD CONFERENCE ON PARLIAMENTARY BY-ELECTIONS IN AZERBAIJAN
The event held in Park INN-Azerbaijan hotel brought together representatives of state authorities, parliament, international organizations and diplomatic corps.
Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Azerbaijan Mazahir Panahov spoke of the preparation for by-elections.
He reminded of the November parliamentary elections and said they were transparent, credible, free and fair.
Mazahir Panahov also said the Commission is taking all the necessary measures to ensure free and fair reelections in May.
Deputy Chairman of the Court of Appeal Ingilab Nasirov spoke of the process of responding to complaints during elections.
Interior Minister Ramil Usubov, for his part, said security for candidates, voters and observers will be more than enough to ensure their safety.
Mr. Usubov also noted that all the necessary measures to protect the integrity and transparency of the voting process are being taken.
The conference was also attended by Ali Hasanov, Head of the Socio-Political Department of the Presidential Office, Zeynal Nagdaliyev, Chief of the Department for regional management and work with local self-governing bodies of the Presidential Office as well as representatives of Azerbaijan at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) and members of the pre-election observation mission of the PACE Ad Hoc Committee led by Leo Platvoet.
