India successfully tests aircraft version of BrahMos cruise missile

India successfully test-fired the aircraft version of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile on Tuesday, the Defense Ministry of India said in a statement, published on the government’s official website on Wednesday, according to TASS.
"The aircraft version of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile was successfully launched from the Su-30MKI fighter jet. The launch was carried out at the country’s eastern coast. The missile struck the designated target - a decommissioned navy warship - with great precision," the statement says.
In 2016, India started creating the aircraft version of BrahMos, planning to install it on over 40 Su-30MKI fighter jets.
The BrahMos supersonic cruise missile is produced by the Indo-Russian BrahMos Aerospace Joint Venture. The missile has been developed by Russia’s Research and Production Association of Machine-Building (situated in the suburban town of Reutov near Moscow) and India’s Defense Research and Development Organization. The missile was test-launched for the first time in 2001. Different versions of it are operational in all the three branches of India’s Armed Forces: the Air Force, the Army and the Navy.
