International conference dedicated to Sheikh Sayyid Yahya Bakuvi continued in Aghdam

Participants of the First International Scientific-Practical Conference dedicated to prominent Azerbaijani thinker and scholar Sheikh Sayyid Yahya Bakuvi Shirvani arrived in Azerbaijan’s city of Aghdam as part of the 7th Meeting of the Council of Heads of Muslim Religious Boards of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS).
The scientific-practical conference continued in Aghdam.
The National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan was played.
In his remarks, Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Office (CMO) Sheikhulislam Allahshukur Pashazade noted that during the First Garabagh War, the Aghdam Juma Mosque became known as the “Martyrs' Mosque.” He said that more than 67 mosques and temples in Garabagh were destroyed during the occupation and that pigs were kept inside the Aghdam Mosque, while anti-Islamic graffiti was written on its walls, which he described as an insult not only to Azerbaijani Muslims but also to Muslims worldwide. The CMO Chairman emphasized that life is returning to Garabagh, with devastated areas being rebuilt and mosques being restored or newly constructed under the leadership of the head of state.
Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Aghdam, Fuzuli and Khojavend districts Emin Huseynov stressed that while Aghdam was once described as a symbol of destruction and grief and as the “Hiroshima of the Caucasus,” it is now transforming into a symbol of peace, security and confidence in the future. He noted that under the First Great Return State Program, new life is being built on the ruins, with residential quarters, schools, hospitals, cultural facilities and public infrastructure being constructed alongside the restoration of mosques, which he described as a physical and spiritual revival of Garabagh.
Hamid Shahriari, Secretary-General of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought, called for peace and stability in the region and globally, expressing hope that sustainable peace will soon be achieved in the South Caucasus.
Fatih Mehmet Karaca, a religious representative from Türkiye, emphasized that the gathering of Muslim religious leaders from the Organization of Turkic States represented an initiative of hope and confidence in the future. He expressed his gratitude to President Ilham Aliyev for reopening the Aghdam Juma Mosque for worship and praised the restoration of historical sites in the region.
Sheikh Nuriddin Kholiknazarov, Chairman of the Muslim Board of Uzbekistan, expressed his satisfaction on behalf of Uzbekistan's Muslims with the return of the Aghdam Juma Mosque to its community and congregation, noting that the land had witnessed the tears of many innocent people and was liberated at the cost of the martyrs' blood.
Other speakers also highly praised the significance of the event and the restoration of mosques in the liberated territories.
Following the speeches, the religious figures offered a joint prayer.
