Japanese PM may attend NATO summit for the first time

Baku, June 4, AZERTAC

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida is considering attending the NATO summit in Madrid at the end of June, NHK TV channel announced on Saturday, citing sources, according to TASS.

Thus, Kishida could become the first Japanese prime minister to attend a NATO meeting. At the summit, he intends not only to discuss the situation around Ukraine, but also the actions of China and North Korea, as well as talk about Japan's plans to radically strengthen its defense capability, the TV channel said.

The next meeting of NATO will be held on June 28-30 in Madrid. Its participants are expected to adopt a new Strategic concept, discuss the issues of strengthening the alliance, and the implications of global climate change for the security sector.
