KULEVI OIL TERMINAL IMPLEMENTS ENVIRONMENTAL PROJECTS
Baku, September 29 (AZERTAC). Within the last years, the whole world community pays great attention to environmental protection by attempting to reduce noxious gas emissions, invest in environmentally friendly technology and cars consuming less fuel. SOCAR enterprises in Azerbaijan and abroad always give heed to ecological problems. In this connection, Kulevi Black Sea Terminal (SOCAR asset in Georgia) implements a number of environmental projects. BST is aware about its responsibilities to protect environment and secure natural resources for future generations. Company`s operation effects are monitored by environmental management system (EMS). EMS is certified according to the international standard ISO 14001 by Moody International. This management system provides a planned control and continual improvement of all processes having an environmental aspect. BST is situated in the ecologically unique area - the Kolkheti National Park, which is under the protection of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands of International Importance. The preserved areas exhibit a great variety of endemic and migratory animals, precious compilation of wetland fauna. To protect and conserve this exceptional nature reserve Black Sea Terminal supports joint fund established together with the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Georgia. To prevent and liquidate oil spills into water and ground Black Sea Terminal established highly skilled and qualified Emergency Response Team, which is equipped with all required technique. All vessel berthing, mooring, loading and unmooring operations are controlled by competent and qualified port, operation and emergency response personnel. At the same time, BST develops and invests engineering projects aimed to minimize atmospheric emissions. Besides all mentioned environmental protection activities, BST develops human resources via internal and external trainings. Main aim of those trainings is to create a higher awareness of all employees for a clean environment and safe operation.
