Romania with six members in Baku Crystal Hall
Baku, April 11 (AZERTAC). Mandinga is a seven member group but in Baku six of them will perform. The group brings together Romanian traditional folk music and latin dance tunes. Elena is the lead singer as the band started ten years ago. In total Mandinga released four albums and currently they are working on a new album.
Forty-two countries are competing with the aim to lift the trophy in Baku. The fifth country to be introduced is Romania. The country got its best placing in 2005 and 2010 and is awaiting Eurovision glory.
A typical Romanian club song with some latin tune is presented by Romania this year in the Eurovision Song Contest. The lead singer Elena sings about a girl who is happy when she is being loved.
Zaleilah is composed by Costi Ionita, a very popular Romanian artist. Costi tried to represent Romania in the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest and also launched a music channel entitled Party TV. Elena Ionescu and Dihigo Omar Secada wrote the lyrics of the song. Elena is the lead singer of Mandinga, while Secada has been working recently with the group.
This will be Romania`s 14th participation in the Eurovision Song Contest. It will be the eighth time that the country is represented by a duo or group. The song is a bi-lingual one. Zaleilah is the 6th song to be performed in the first semi-final. It is preceded by the ballad from Albania and it is followed by the pop rock song from Switzerland. A clear advantage might therefore be the fact that it is performed in the middle of two very different songs.
Romania is currently standing at number 15 to win the Eurovision Song Contest, while it looks more favourable for the country to qualify as it is the fourth favourite to qualify from semi-final one.
