Ogtay Asadov, Milli Majlis speaker, met April 13 with Ambassador Maurizio Pavesi, the head of the OSCE office in Baku.

Chairman of the Milli Majlis (Azerbaijani Parliament) said the reforms to build a civil, democratic and secular state are successfully going on in Azerbaijan, with the country co-operating with some international organizations including the OSCE to adopt European values. Later on, O. Asadov told of the work Azerbaijan has done so far to eliminate November 2005 parliamentary election irregularities, achievements in improving the electoral system and conditions created in Azerbaijan to conduct democratic, free, transparent and fair May 2006 re-elections.

Maurizio Pavesi thanked MM speaker for detailed information, saying the OSCE is keeping a close eye on the ongoing reforms in Azerbaijan. He described the achievements gained by Azerbaijan as satisfactory.

The meeting also focused on the re-elections, freedoms of press and speech, human rights and other issues of mutual interest.
