RF MINISTRY OF EMERGENCIES CONDUCTS WORKSHOP
The seminar was attended by Azerbaijani Minster of Emergencies Kemaleddin Heydarov and RF Deputy Minister of Emergencies Mikhail Faleyev.
M. Faleyev updated seminar participants on the RF Emergencies Ministry’s activity and functions and told of the civil defense, protection of citizens in emergency situations and other issues. He also spoke of the RF Ministry’s logistical support, staff capacity, legislative basis, international cooperation and foreign trips to the disaster-hit areas outside Russia.
The visitor expressed an intention to help Azerbaijani counterparts to bring Azerbaijani Ministry up to world standards with a special emphasis on staff training and experience exchange.
Then, K. Heydarov expressed gratitude to the Russian Ministry of Emergencies for organizing the workshop and touched upon responsibilities of the newly established Ministry.
According to K. Heydarov, the Ministry of Emergencies, which was set up by President Ilham Aliyev’s decree of 16 December 2005, is designed to protect the population from natural calamities, accidents, fire, pursue civil defense-related policy and coordinate the activity of central and local rescue authorities.
The ministry, according to K. Heydarov, will make use of experience of the leading countries, in particular, that of the Russian Emergencies Ministry and put an emphasis on establishment of the legislative base and other forms of cooperation.
The same day, Minister K. Heydarov viewed the equipment presented by the RF Emergencies Ministry-organized exhibition.
Russian Deputy Minister Mikhail Faleyev noted that there are good prospects of bilateral cooperation between the two Ministries and expressed his confidence that new Azerbaijani Ministry would meet all challenges in the years ahead.
