Sales of smartphones and tablets to exceed PCs in 18 months

Baku, December 8 (AZERTAC). Total sales of smartphones and tablets worldwide for the first time will exceed the supply of personal computers (PCs), says analyst firm IDC, noting that henceforth sales of smartphones and tablets will be always higher than PCs.

According to IDC, 42 million multimedia tablets will be shipped in 2011.

As to PCs, next year 409 million such devices are expected to be delivered to the world market. They are computers, desktops, laptops and netebooks.

In comparison with the current year PC sales will increase by 18%, whereas sales of tablets will be 181%.

Apple accounts for most parts of both tablet systems in the market with its iPad, but analysts say that with the release of Android 3.0, the share of Google platform will grow rapidly.

Note that release of the third version of Android is scheduled for 2011.
