Ukraine expects to evacuate women, children and the elderly from Mariupol today

On April 20, 2022, a humanitarian corridor was approved to evacuate women, children and the elderly from the besieged city of Mariupol.
The relevant statement was made by Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister, Temporary Occupied Territories Reintegration Minister Iryna Vereshchuk on Telegram, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
“A humanitarian corridor from Mariupol was approved on April 20, 2022. Considering the humanitarian catastrophe in Mariupol, we are focusing efforts on this direction today. We have preliminarily agreed on a humanitarian corridor for women, children and the elderly,” Vereshchuk told.
In her words, the evacuation column will use the following route: Mariupol-Manhush-Berdiansk-Tokmak-Orikhiv-Zaporizhzhia.
“Considering the challenging security situation, changes may occur during the corridor. Hence, please monitor relevant official announcements. We will do our best to make everything work properly,” Vereshchuk added.
