Wrong info about Azerbaijan removed after AzerTAc`s interference
Baku, March 21 (AZERTAC). Another mistake about Azerbaijan was corrected after AZERTAC`s prompt move as a photograph depicting a funeral for victims of 20 January, 1990 victims was posted on the Russian RIA-Novosti agency`s website but contained a controversial headline saying “Remembrance Day for Armenians killed in Baku”.
The text under the photograph said, “A mourning meeting organized on the occasion of the remembrance day at a Baku`s central park where buried are Armenians who fell victims to the national conflict, which occurred on January 19-22, 1990”
AZERTAC Director General Aslan Aslanov sent a letter of protest to the agency`s editor-in-chief Svetlana Mironyuk on March 21, saying such falsifications of historical truth and facts are unacceptable.
The letter let the editor know that the photograph shows burial of people who were killed during atrocities committed by the Soviet special forces on January 20, 1990.
The majority of 132 killed civilians are Azerbaijanis as well as Russian and Jews. There were no Armenians among the dead in the January 20 massacre. The photograph was taken during the funeral, which took place two days later on January 22 at a place, which is now called Martyrs` Alley. Everyone who visits this place knows that there is no Armenian grave.
After AZERTAC`s interference, RIA-Novosti removed the wrong information from its website.
