100TH ANNIVERSARY OF IOSIF GOSLAVSKIY DEDICATED
I. Goslavskiy is the author of grand buildings in Baku such as House of Haji Zeynalabdin Tagiyev (present Museum of Azerbaijan History), school for Muslim-girls (building of Manuscript Fund of the National Academy of Sciences) and building of the former State Duma (former Baksovet) where the mayor’s office is located now.
I. Goslavskiy came to Baku after graduating from the Institute of Civil Engineers in Saint Petersburg. From 1892 to 1904, he held the office of Baku City Architect.
Goslavskiy dealt with oil tycoon Haji Zeynalabdin Tagiyev. He was called as “Azerbaijani Rastrelli”. He had lived 38 years but not seen his pivotal masterpiece – Baksovet. Thus, let us pay tribute to this genuine Bakuvite.
