205-metre sausage hits national record at Hungary festival

Baku, December 4 (AZERTAC). A 205-metre long sausage, the longest ever made in Hungary, was prepared in the village of Tengelic in the south of the country during a gastronomy festival on Saturday, according to MTI News Agency.

The village organized the sausage-filling and mulled wine-brewing competition for the fifth consecutive year, Laszlo Pamer, a regular at the event, told MTI.

The contestants slaughtered a pig in the small hours of Saturday and prepared the filling from 165 kilogrammes of meat, Pamer said.

The ingredients are traditionally mixed in a spontaneous way, “to taste”, he added. About four kilogrammes of salt, the same amount of paprika and just under half a kilo of pepper went into the prized delicacy.

The sausage took about five hours of concentrated effort by twelve people to prepare, Istvan Sebestyen, who officially documented the national record, said. The previous record holder was a 133.5-metre sausage made in Sandorfalva in 2004, he said.
