Sheki is one of Azerbaijan’s oldest cities, boasting charming nature. A favorable tourism destination, this place is well known for its numerous attractions.
The Yukhari Bash National-Historical Architectural Reserve, a historical center and the most ancient part of the city, is one of such attractions. The Yukhari Bash Reserve includes such architectural monuments of historical importance as the Sheki Khan’s Palace, the Sheki Fortress, caravanserais, as well as crafts shops.
The historic center of Sheki with the Khan’s Palace was inscribed on UNESCO World Heritage List during the 43rd session of the World Heritage Committee of UNESCO.
One of the most exciting crafts luring tourists from around the world is Shabaka - Azerbaijani traditional stained glass technique. A classic example of this art form is the Sheki Khans Palace, dating back to the 18th century. These stained glass windows are the special feature in the palace’s architecture.
The silkworm breeding is another important art that has developed in Sheki since ancient times. During the medieval era, Sheki was famous as one of the largest silk producers and weaving centers not only across Azerbaijan, but also in the Middle East. Sheki was globally recognized for its enduring tradition of silkworm breeding, a heritage that continues to thrive today.
The Bio Garden, located at Sheki’s Oyrat village, is a true agritourism heaven. Wondering through the area spanning 8 hectares, the visitors can come across more than 3000 fruit trees, as well as beekeeping production. One can experience the harmony of the beauty of nature and rural life.
One of the Sheki’s must-have traditional delicacies is the famous Sheki halva. In addition to halva, other traditional Azerbaijani sweets are made in Sheki confectioneries: okra, burma halvasy, tel halvasy, caramel "barama" and much more.
