4th World Congress of News Agencies gets underway in Riyadh
Riyadh, November 20 (AZERTAC). The 4th World Congress of News Agencies continued in Riyadh on Tuesday.
The World Congress, hosted by the Saudi Press Agency, was attended by top officials of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, over 70 news agencies including Agency France-Press, UK`s Press Association, Australian Associated Press, Thomson Reuters, China`s Xinhua, Japan`s Kyodo, Turkey`s Anadolu, Russia`s ITAR-TASS, Germany`s DPA, Egypt`s MENA, Argentina`s TELAM, South Korea`s YONHAP, Indonesia`s Antara, as well as press alliances OANA, EANA, FANA, International Islamic News Agency and heads of such media outlets as Sky News Arabia, Los-Angeles Times, Guardian BBC and internet corporations such as YAHOO, Google, MSN.
Azerbaijan is represented by the Azerbaijan State Telegraph Agency (AZERTAC).
Nick George, Partner Price Waterhouse Coopers, delivered a keynote address, followed by CEO of Press Association Clive Marshall who spoke of the global media problems and ways to solve them.
The session on New Market Products and Services was moderated by Australian Press Association CEO Bruce Davidson. The speaker at this session included Gary Pruitt, President & CEO Associated Press, Steven Schwartz, Global Managing Director/Reuters Media, Emmanuel Hoog, President & CEO, Agency France-Press, Jose Antonio Vera, President & CEO Agency EFE, Sergey Mikhaylov, Director General, Itar-tass.
Hoog noted that it is necessary to know the history of the event and exactly how it took place. From this point of view, he highlighted the professionalism of a journalist.
He spoke of the challenges facing news agencies and media problems.
The second session “Social media and other news digital platforms” moderated by Eric Carvin, Social Media Editor, Associated Press saw interesting discussions. Darren Watters, Head of Devices and Social Media, MSN UK Maha Abouelenein, Head of Global Communications and Public Affairs Middle East & North Africa, Google Mr. Mohammad Sabe,Editor-in-Chief(Arabic) for Middle East and Africa, Yahoo spoke of the challenges caused by the social media, professional approach in choosing photos according to the content.
The discussions were followed by a transfer to the historical sites around Riyadh.
