80 PERCENT OF JANUARY TRADES AT BICEX FALLS TO ELECTRONIC TRADES

The Baku Interbank Currency Exchange (BICEX) has defined the list of banks – leading operators of foreign currency exchange market in January 2004.

According to BICEX’s PR office, International Bank of Azerbaijan, United Universal Joint-Stock Bank, commercial banks “Amrahbank”, Commercial Joint-Stock Bank ”Republic” and “Rabitabank has become the leaders of the currency market depending on their share of closed deals in the total volume of trades.

Altogether, 29 banks participated in the trades for US dollar for January 2004. For the last month, 20 trade sessions were conducted and 240 deals were closed. The volume of dollar trades has totaled 316 billion 300 million manat or USD 64,178 millions. USD 51,223 million or 80 percent out of the total volume of January deals falls to the share of the BEST. The weighted rate of AZM against USD made up 4928,48 in January against the December rate of 4920,98. The volume of deals on RUR in the BEST has totaled 976 million manat in January.
