AMBASSADOR OF IRAN IN AZERBAIJAN HELD A NEWS CONFERENCE
Having told about economic, social and political changes in Iran, A. Gazai has noted that the leadership of the country is interested in development of friendly relations with all states of region, including Azerbaijan.
Answering questions of journalists concerning the date of visit of the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev to Iran, the Ambassador has told that prospective visit to Teheran would take place after end of all the preparatory measures. “Alongside with visit of the head of Azerbaijan to Iran, also there is a preparation and for visit of the President of Iran Seyyed Mohammad Khatami to Baku. Currently, between the two countries a number of interstate agreements are being prepared. Exact date of both visits is not determined yet”, - the Ambassador stressed.
Concerning the question of definition of the status of the Caspian Sea, A. Gazai has noted that constructive negotiating process in the said direction still proceeds. According to the Iranian ambassador, the policy of the five Caspian littoral states under the status of Caspian Sea in many respects is similar, and discords in the opinions concerning the northern part of this reservoir between the sides are not present at all.
At the same time, has emphasized A. Gazai, the negotiations between Iran, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan on the status of southern part of the Caspian should come to an end with signing of a common agreement between leaders of all the Caspian littoral states.
He has reminded that the next meetings of representatives of the Caspian littoral states would held in Azerbaijan and Russia where offers of commissions of experts on the said question will be discussed. “The agreement on the status of the Caspian should be prepared within the framework of international law and in view of interests of all 5 states of the region. The Caspian should become the sea of peace and cooperation”, the Ambassador of Iran said.
Finally, the Ambassador touched the issue of settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict on Nagorno Karabakh. A. Gazai has emphasized that Iran supports liberation of the occupied territories of Azerbaijan“. “Resolution to the answers the interests not only of Baku, but also Teheran ”, A. Gazai stated.
