AZERBAIJAN ATTACHES PARTICULAR SIGNIFICANCE TO RELATIONS WITH USA
According to the MNS’ press service, the Minister pointed out the particular significance Azerbaijan attaches to the relations with the United States bearing strategic character, which meets interests of both countries. The Minister noted that the delegation’s visit has concurred with the period after fair, transparent presidential election and considered the victory gained as Azerbaijani people’s support of the domestic and foreign policy of Heydar Aliyev. Having described stability as an important condition for successive integration into the world community, the Minister noted once again that there were forces able to violate social and political stability in Azerbaijan neither within nor outside the country.
The parties as well had exchange views on the situation in the Caucasus, regional relations, today’s situation as to Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Garabakh conflict and establishment of long-term relations between the United States of America and Azerbaijan.
Minister Namig Abbasov pointed out that Azerbaijan strives for establishment of equitable, mutually beneficial and good neighboring relations with all countries. He stressed, at the same time, that the Republic of Azerbaijan continues to be a victim of occupation and terror, and the world’s leading countries including the United States of America, however, have not yet given due assessment to the fact of occupation carrying out the policy of double standards. From this standpoint, according to the Minster, ensuring territorial integrity of the countries and prevention of aggressive separatism must be a basic condition for stability and security in the region
In the course of the meeting, Minister Namig Abbasov expressed his attitude to a number of issues touched upon by members of the U.S. delegation.
