AZERBAIJAN DELEGATION ATTENDED WTO GENERAL ASSEMBLY SESSION
At the session, representative of the Ministry Firudin Gurbanov delivered a lecture on impact of the development of tourism on poverty elimination.
In his lecture, “On sustainable development of tourism in the world”, the Secretary General of WTO Mr. Francois Francelli gave a positive assessment to the measures undertaken by the leadership of Azerbaijan for development of tourism in the country, active participation in variety of seminars and trainings conducted under the aegis of WTO.
Representatives of Azerbaijan delegation held negotiations with the leadership of public structures of the countries engaged in tourism, such as CIS, Bulgaria, Poland, China, Kazakhstan and discussed issues of development of bilateral cooperation.
At the session, also focused were a number of organizational issues. Another three states – Lithuania, Latvia and Bhutan were admitted to WTO. Thus, members of this Organization numbered 143. Participants of the session adopted a decision on becoming of WTO a specialized institution of the United Nations and made certain address. Also adopted was a decision on announcement of 2004 as the year of tourism.
Next session of WTO General Assembly will be held I n 2005, in Senegal. It has to be reminded that Azerbaijan has become WTO member since September 2001.
