MOTION FOR RECOMMENDATION
ON PLUNDER AND DESTRUCTION BY ARMENIA OF THE WOODS
IN TERRITORIES OF AZERBAIJAN UNDER OCCUPATION
The woods represent for Azerbaijan very serious economic, political and environmental problems. They cover large territory in the Nagorno Karabakh region and 7 adjacent regions of Azerbaijan occupied now by Armenia. These forest were for the people living in the said territory, and as a whole for Azerbaijan both economic riches, and a natural filter providing cleanliness of environment. We are compelled to declare that now in the territories, which are under occupation of the Armenian armed forces, more than half of woods either is destroyed, or transformed into a dangerous zone.
210 thousand hectares of the territory of woods of Nagorno Karabakh are completely polluted with radiating and nuclear waste products and are put out of action.
The territory of the Lachin region under occupation makes 1835 square kilometers. In 1995, some 280 square kilometers of the forest in the Lachin region have been leased for 15-years term to the Armenian millionaire Grian Oganyan living in the American state of New Jersey, and a factory on manufacture of the weapon there has been constructed.
The villages Kamilli, Bozlu, Gushchu, and Sadinlar, surrounded with fine woods in the Lachin region do not exist any more. They have been erased completely together with woods.
A reserve covering territory 20 thousand of hectares was In the Gubadli region under occupation. It has been burnt by the Armenian military formations. The Kalbajar region was one of the most picturesque and bewitching regions of Azerbaijan with a rich wood cover. At occupation of this area in April 1993, the shells having warheads with a nuclear stuffing were used. In opinion of the experts, the said territories only 25 years later can return to normal condition. 370 square kilometers of the polluted territories made woods.
As a result of burial of nuclear waste products in the occupied territories significant excess of the admitted norms of radiation, ruthless cutting down of the woods named "easy" nature and playing an "easy" role in clarification of an environment, in the region, has appeared a new, awful kind of tuberculosis having a nuclear origin. On July 12, 2000, in the Ministry of Health of Armenia, was discussed measures on struggle against the virus of tuberculosis distributed in settlements of Gorus, Kafan, Mehri, Sisyan and Vardenis. Similar viruses are distributed in Nagorno Karabakh - in Khankendi, nowadays named Stepanakert, Shusha, and Khojavand. As a result of this session, in several villages of the Agdam region under occupation, special cemeteries for burial were created for the dead of tuberculosis, AIDS and cancer. Moreover, in the Fizuli region, were open skilled laboratories, investigating corpses died of tuberculosis.
In 1974 in the territory of Zangilan region under occupation, a reserve with area of 107 hectares has been created. 2 hectares of this reserve were now kept only. All plane trees there have been cut down and sold to furniture factories of Iran.
Population of Nakhchivan, living in conditions of blockade from the moment of the beginning of this military aggression of Armenia against Azerbaijan, is compelled in cold winter months to use valuable breeds of trees.
