Azerbaijan Foreign minister holds meetings in Indonesia
Baku, May 27 (AZERTAC). Azerbaijan minister of foreign affairs Elmar Mammadyarov held several meeting as part of the 16th Ministerial Conference and Commemorative Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), which wraps up today in Nusa Dua of Bali province, Indonesia.
As part of the event, Mammadyarov met with foreign ministers and deputy foreign ministers of Guinea-Bissau, Somalia, Mozambique, Serbia, Cuba, UAE, Honduras and other countries.
The 16th summit is a special event as it is coincidence with the 50th anniversary of the movement. Created with only 25 member states in 1961, now the movement has grown and welcomes Fiji and Azerbaijan as candidate members. The Forum has brought together 118 member states, 18 observer states, 10 observer organizations and about 30 invited countries.
The summit, followed by a commemorative meeting of the 50th anniversary, was themed “Shared Vision on the Contribution of NAM for the Next 50 Years”.
At the Bali meeting, members discussed the final document from the 15th NAM Meeting, held in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, on July 11-16, 2009. The document notes issues that deserve attention from NAM members. Some of those issues are the problems of the global economy and monetary issues, the need to uphold the commitment to the United Nations (UN) charter and international law and the need to increase cooperation between developed and developing countries in an era of crisis that has been hindering economic and social development. In all, NAM is trying to pursue the interests of its members, particularly in an era of global governance crises.
