Azerbaijan hosts opening ceremony of 2026 ISMF Ski Mountaineering European Championships

On March 3, the opening ceremony of the European Ski Mountaineering Championship and World Cup competitions, co-organized by the International Ski Mountaineering Federation, the Azerbaijan Winter Sports Federation, and the Shahdag Mountain Resort, was held in Gusar.
Organizing such competitions for the first time in Azerbaijan is a milestone event in the country's sports history.
The event participants emphasized that prestigious competitions such as the European Championship and the World Cup is of great significance for Azerbaijan, not only as a sporting event, but also as a demonstration of the country's winter tourism potential, modern ski infrastructure capabilities, and ability to successfully host international events.
They also highlighted that organizing competitions in this format would provide a significant stimulus to the formation of a new generation in sports in the country, the training of professional athletes, and the further strengthening of the national team's position in the international arena.
The country will be represented by five athletes at the tournament, including Nazrin Garibova, Nabiyulla Galabagiyev, Anid Sultanov, Abel Ismikhanov and Nurid Shakaraliyev.
The competitions, scheduled for March 4-8, will feature athletes competing in the U-18 and U-20 categories, as well as senior athletes contesting in sprint, mixed relay, individual and vertical races.
