Azerbaijan Milli Majlis speaker meets European Parliament`s delegation
Baku, July 15 (AZERTAC). Speaker of the Azerbaijan Milli Majlis, Ogtay Asadov met Friday a delegation of the European Parliament.
They discussed prospects for development of cooperation, ways to settle regional conflict and other matters.
Asadov said development of cooperation with European Union was one of the priorities of his country`s foreign policy.
According to him, Azerbaijan`s cooperation with EU is developing successfully within the framework of the European Neighborhood Policy and Eastern Partnership program. “The establishment of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly will serve expansion of our cooperation, as well.”
The Speaker also told of Azerbaijan`s role in European energy security and Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. He added the conflict hinders development process in the region and poses threat to security in Europe. “We regard that the conflict must be settled peacefully and on the basis of principles of international law.”
Member of the European Parliament, Gaston Franco said EU attaches great importance to boosting cooperation with Azerbaijan in not only energy, but also cultural and humanitarian spheres.
Head of Azerbaijan`s parliamentary group in Euronest PA Elkan Suleymanov, MEPs Jose Manuel Fernandez and Alain Destexhe were present in the meeting.
