Azerbaijan Parliament`s Speaker meets French senators
Baku, April 18 (AZERTAC). Speaker of Azerbaijan Milli Majlis Ogtay Asadov met Monday a delegation of French senators led by chairman of France-Caucasus friendship group of the Senate, Ambroise Dupont.
The talks focused on how to deepen relationship between the two countries.
Asadov told of the importance of reciprocal visits. He also praised the activity of friendship groups in the two countries` parliaments. The Speaker underlined that Azerbaijan`s First Lady, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, UNESCO and ISESCO Goodwill ambassador, MP Mehriban Aliyeva was elected head of the Azerbaijan-France inter-parliamentary friendship group.
On the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Asadov expressed hope that France, as one of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chair countries, would increase efforts to settle the problem.
Ambroise Dupont, in turn, said he saw great development processes in Azerbaijan since his last visit to the country in 2007. He highly appreciated Azerbaijan`s role in the South Caucasus region.
Dupont also expressed satisfaction with the fact that President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva was elected head of the Azerbaijan-France friendship group, expressing confidence that this would contribute to development of bilateral relationship even more.
Dupont pointed out that Mehriban Aliyeva had done important works to develop relations between the two countries before her election as head of the friendship group. He said another event will be held in Paris with participation of Mrs. Aliyeva. “We believe the friendship group will play important role in expansion of bilateral relations.”
