Azerbaijan represented at FAO’s interregional policy dialogue on greening agrifood systems

An interregional policy dialogue: Integrated Policy Approach for Greening Agrifood Systems was held in Budapest, Hungary.
Co-organized by the Regional Offices of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) for Europe and Central Asia and for the Near East and North Africa, the event featured discussions on issues regarding the coordination of policies on agriculture, water resources, climate change, and the environment, as well as the transition to green agriculture and the development of sustainable agrifood systems.
Azerbaijan was represented at the event by Azad Jafarli, Chief of Staff of the Ministry of Agriculture, and Rashad Huseynov, Director of the Agricultural Research Center.
In his remarks, Azad Jafarli provided insight into the development of agrifood systems, the transition to green agriculture, green financing, and state support mechanisms in Azerbaijan, touching upon the application of green financing opportunities in agricultural insurance.
He also provided details about the “State Program for the Development of Agricultural, Fisheries, and Aquaculture Production and Processing Sectors in the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2026–2030,” adding that the document outlines measures regarding the efficient and sustainable use of water and land resources, the strengthening of resilience to climate change, digitalization and the implementation of innovative solutions, and the expansion of financial opportunities in the agricultural sector, alongside increasing agricultural productivity and competitiveness.
The Azerbaijani delegation also briefed participants on the implementation of the country’s green agricultural approaches and the promotion of modern irrigation systems, as well as renewable energy sources on farms.
It was highlighted that Azerbaijan implements approaches based on regenerative agriculture and nature conservation through a combination of traditional practices and modern technologies.
The development of agriculture in the liberated territories based on the concepts of “smart village,” “green village,” and “green financing,” the application of modern irrigation systems, renewable energy, and digital technologies, including a cooperative model, were also emphasized.
The delegation delivered a presentation on Azerbaijan's agricultural sector.
During the two-day dialogue, participants exchanged views on issues, such as the transition to green agriculture, policy coordination, the implementation of innovative solutions, monitoring and evaluation, financing, and regional cooperation.
During the event, a field trip to the Hungarian village of Kozárd was organized, providing participants with the opportunity to observe practical examples of the implementation of multifunctional landscapes and regenerative social-ecological systems.
