Azerbaijan, Russia boost cooperation in illegal drugs haul control
Baku, January 14 (AZERTAC). Azerbaijan and Russia have signed an agreement on illegal drugs trafficking control. The agreement, which envisages the cooperation in fighting against illegal trafficking of drugs, psychotropic substances and their precursors, was inked by Azerbaijan`s Minister of National Security Eldar Mahmudov and Director of Russian Federal Service for Drug Control Victor Ivanov.
Speaking before the signing ceremony, Mahmudov stressed the importance of Ivanov`s visit, saying it would contribute to “deepening our cooperation in fighting against common threats”.
Mahmudov praised the cooperation between Azerbaijan`s national security ministry and Russian Federal Drug Control Service.
“Last year we conducted 11 joint operations to seize about 800 kilograms of drug substances, and criminal charges were brought against 22 people.”
The Azeri minister stressed the importance of strengthening regional cooperation in combating illegal drugs trafficking and other crimes.
Ivanov said Russia attached a particular emphasis to cooperating with Azerbaijan`s relative authorities, in particular the ministry of national security, in fighting against transnational crimes.
He praised the Azerbaijani authorities` fight against illegal drugs haul.
Ivanov also stressed the importance of expanding information exchange between Azerbaijan`s national security ministry and Russia`s Federal Drug Control Service.
