Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan sign Roadmap for 2026-2028 on expanding energy cooperation

Parviz Shahbazov, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Energy, met with a delegation of Uzbekistan, led by Minster of Energy Sherzod Khodjaev.
The meeting hailed the dynamic development of strategic partnership and allied relations under the leadership of Azerbaijani President Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. The meeting emphasized that the Azerbaijani President’s state visit to Uzbekistan in August this year gave new impetus to relations between the two countries, including energy cooperation. The ministers highlighted the important role of joint energy projects and mutual investments in achieving the goals set by the heads of state.
They also discussed the current state of cooperation in the oil and gas and electricity sectors, renewable energy, energy efficiency and regulation, mutual investments, as well as other areas, also stressing the strategic importance of the Central Asia-Azerbaijan Green Energy Corridor project. The meeting noted that the energy interconnections currently developed by Azerbaijan via the Black Sea and towards Türkiye for the green electricity transmission to Europe would contribute to the formation of a broader green energy route extending from Central Asia to Europe.
Subsequently, the meeting saw the signing of a Roadmap for 2026-2028 on Expanding Cooperation in the Energy Sector between the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The document outlines the implementation of the Central Asia-Azerbaijan Green Energy Corridor project, cooperation on geological exploration and production in the oil and gas sector, the supply of oil and petroleum products, the development of joint projects in the refining sector, and the expansion of SOCAR’s activities in Uzbekistan as key areas of cooperation. The document also covers strengthening the exchange of experience and knowledge in the fields of energy efficiency and heat energy.
