AZERBAIJANI AMBASSADOR PRESENTED HIS CREDENTIALS IN ITALY

On 17 December, at the residence of President of the Republic of Italy, ambassador of Azerbaijan to this country Elmar Mammadyarov presented his credentials to President Mr. Carlo Adzelio Champi.

Greeting the Azerbaijani diplomat, President Champi received his credentials and wished him success in the new post, the foreign ministry’s spokesman told AzerTAj correspondent.

Then, President Champi and Elmar Mammadyarov had a private talk. Expressing his sorrow in connection with passing of President Heydar Aliyev, President of Italy stated that he knew the nationwide leader of Azerbaijan as one of the authoritative political leader of the world, and stressed special role in establishment and development of relations between Italy and Azerbaijan. Addressing with a request to convey to the head of state Ilham Aliyev his condolence with demise of President Heydar Aliyev, President Champi stated that he shares his grief.

President Champi noted that in Azerbaijan has been established a firm foundation for the welfare and economic development, and the peaceful settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno Karabakh conflict would much more accelerate this development. Underlining his vast keenness in deepening and bringing to a high level the Italian-Azerbaijani relations, President Champi stated that the Italian side would participate in this process much more actively.

Ambassador Elmar Mammadyarov expressed gratitude to President Champi for condolence with the death of President Heydar Aliyev. The Azerbaijan diplomat stated that thanks to the policy of Heydar Aliyev, were realized successful steps in the direction of integration of Azerbaijan to the European institutions. As a conclusion of this policy, ensuring of security of Azerbaijan that became a part of European House and settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict had great significance for safety of Europe. On this reason, Azerbaijani diplomat touched the activity of Italy in the field of peaceful resolution to the Armenian -Azerbaijani conflict, and with great regret that proposal of the Italian side in this direction did not bring any result, emphasized that the said conflict was still causing serious damage to the regional cooperation and development.

Dwelling the issue of bilateral economic co-op between Azerbaijan and Italy, the Azerbaijani diplomat noted activity of the Italian companies in the power sector of Azerbaijan, and updated on the energy projects in the Caspian region and their importance for Azerbaijan, in particular, on the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan MEP. The Ambassador also stressed: “The conducted cardinal reforms set up a favorable condition for investments in all spheres, in particular, in the non-oil sector, and we hope that these opportunities would lead to growth of interest of the Italian companies to Azerbaijan and as a result, there would be opened vast perspectives for further expansion and enhancing of economic ties between Azerbaijan and Italy”.

Taking the opportunity, the Ambassador handed over to President Champi the message of the president of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev. In this letter, President Ilham Aliyev invited his Italian counterpart to pay an official visit to Azerbaijan. President of Italy said he accepts the invitation and would realize it on a convenient time.
