Azerbaijani candidate elected to UN Committee on the Rights of the Child

On June 23, Azerbaijan’s candidate was elected as a member of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child (CRC) for the 2027–2031 term during the 21st Meeting of States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of the Child held in New York.
In the elections, held amid strong international competition, candidates from 16 countries competed for nine vacant seats on the Committee.
Azerbaijan’s nominee, Farid Adilov, a doctoral student at the University of Essex, secured the support of the majority of participating states and was elected in the first round of voting with 130 votes.
A citizen of Azerbaijan will thus serve on the Committee for the first time.
The UN Committee on the Rights of the Child is a key treaty body responsible for monitoring the implementation of the 1989 Convention on the Rights of the Child. Composed of 18 independent experts from around the world, the Committee reviews how States Parties fulfill their obligations under the Convention.
