Azerbaijani delegation discusses Nagorno-Karabakh conflict at OSCE PA winter session
Vienna, February 25 (AZERTAC). An Azerbaijani delegation led by the parliament`s vice-speaker Bahar Muradova spoke of Azerbaijan`s position on protracted conflicts and multidimensional threats during discussions at OSCE PA`s security and political affairs committee.
Muradova stressed the importance of OSCE Minsk Group`s statement urging the change in the current status quo in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
She said she supported meetings between Azerbaijani and Armenian communities of Nagorno-Karabakh. Muradova expressed hope that an unbiased report on the conflict would be prepared before the OSCE PA summer session and a relevant resolution would be adopted at the session.
She emphasized that Armenia was recognized as an aggressor in the resolutions of the UN, European Union, Council of Europe and other international organizations.
“Azerbaijan wants just fulfillment of the relevant resolutions, restoration of its territorial integrity and spares no efforts towards peaceful settlement of the conflict. But Armenia stalls negotiations process and doesn`t want to change its unconstructive position, which is a source of threat in the region.”
on the sidelines of the meeting Muradova met Ireland`s delegation to OSCE PA to discuss the Nagorno-Karabakh related issues. Head of the Irish delegation Eoghan Murphy said Ireland would focus on protracted conflicts during OSCE Chairmanship, including Nagorno-Karabakh, adding Dublin will host a conference which will focus on Northern Ireland as a case study on the settlement of conflicts.
Muradova said Minsk Group had to make pressure on Armenia. “For its turn, Ireland, thinking globally, should ensure that Armenia observe principles and norms of international law.
The Azeri deputy vide speaker also met French MP Roland Blum to condemn France`s adoption of a pro-Armenian law.
“The French Senate`s adoption of a law criminalizing the denial of the so-called Armenian genocide has shattered the confidence in the objectiveness of France as an OSCE Minsk Group co-chair.”
Muradova called on French MPs to “focus on the most terrible crime of the 20th century, the Khojaly genocide”, saying the French Senate should a give legal assessment to the massacre of peaceful Azerbaijanis by Armenians in the town of Khojaly 20 years ago.
She also made a speech at the final meeting of OSCE PA Winter Session. Muradova said Speaker of Azerbaijan`s parliament Ogtay Asadov sent a letter to OSCE PA President Petros Efthymiou expressing Baku`s desire to host the Assembly`s spring session in 2014.
Muradova invited European MPs to attend Eurovision 2012, describing this contest as a `great chance` to get familiar with Azerbaijan`s culture, traditions, national values and hospitality.
