Azerbaijani MPs attend 39th Plenary Session of CIS Interparliamentary Assembly
Baku, December 1 (AZERTAC). An Azerbaijani parliamentarian delegation led by speaker Ogtay Asadov has attended the 39th Plenary Session of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly in St. Petersburg, Russia.
The session was opened by Chair of the Council of CIS PA and the Council of the Russian Federation Valentina Matviyenko. She noted the event plays a significant role in development of interparliamentary relations within the CIS. Matviyenko said the model laws adopted during the session were very important in terms of development of interparliamentary ties.
The session discussed a number of model law projects, including “Protection of Architectural Heritage”, “Electronic Documentation”, “Anti-corruption Monitoring”, “Commercial Secret”, “Environmental Audit”, “Education Code” and “Tax Code”.
Following the adoption of the 25 issues of the session, the heads of parliamentary delegations have made a press statement.
The second part of the day was continued with the international conference entitled “Nuclear Security in the Modern World: Role of Parliamentarians in Nuclear Disarmament and Non-proliferation”.
Prior to the event, the attendees viewed a photo exhibition on “Nuclear Security in the Modern World”.
Speaking to the opening of the conference, Chair of the Council of CIS PA and the Council of the Russian Federation Valentina Matviyenko stressed the importance of the conference in restoration of peace and stability in the world.
Kazakh Majilis speaker Nurlan Nigmatulin read out President Nursultan Nazarbayev`s address to the conference participants, and made a report on the topic.
The attendees have also heard speeches by heads of parliaments of the CIS member countries.
During his speech, speaker of the Azerbaijan Parliament Ogtay Asadov said the nuclear security and nuclear disarmament was a “global problem” in the international arena.
“Every country is responsible for the issue. The irresponsibility is unacceptable,” he underlined.
He said the international community realizes the complex steps towards provide of nuclear security, including Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, which adopted 43 years ago.
Asadov also touched upon outdated nuclear plants, including Armenian Metsamor plant, and stressed it is necessary that it closes as soon as possible.
